Two estimates make the final number

First, an equation estimates resting energy—the energy used for basic functions such as breathing, circulation and temperature regulation. QuickCalcWorld uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation. Second, an activity multiplier estimates the additional energy used in daily life and exercise.

The activity step introduces uncertainty. Two people who both choose “moderate activity” may have very different jobs, walking habits, training sessions and recovery needs. Treat the result as a centre point for observation, not an exact daily limit.

Maintenance is not fixed

Energy needs change with body size, movement, training volume, illness, sleep, pregnancy, ageing and other factors. Even careful food tracking contains measurement error because portions, recipes and labels vary.

A short period of consistent observation can help test the estimate. Track body-weight trends under similar conditions, along with hunger, energy, performance and wellbeing. One day tells very little; patterns over several weeks are more useful.

Why simple deficit rules can mislead
